Driving has been
incorporated into the average American life to the point that
everyone drives and that there are drivers on the road 24/7. Driving
is a skill that requires drivers full attention. and even though most
people know this fact were are still facing fatalities to car crashes
every day. So how do we fix this problem? what are the necessary
steps to take to create a safer environment not just for us but for
future generations?
One main solution
is laws. Georgia enacted a hands-free law which states that if a
person is caught driving with any cellular or touch screen device
they can be pulled over and ticketed. This is just one example that
people are taking the necessary steps to prevent more fatalities from
driving.
Now not all car
accidents and fatalities are caused by the driver. They can be caused
by external variables for example. My brother was driving home from
taking his finals at Chattahoochee technical college and while he was
pulling out of the parking lot and going on to the road and was
trying to stop at a stop sign and sadly ended up sliding across black
ice and hitting a car in front of him. Thankfully nobody was hurt but
sadly my brother’s car was totaled.
To combat this we
have to warn and make sure that people are aware of what can be out
on the road and what to look out for when they are driving. Telling
people that there is ice on the road on the news and setting up signs
on the highway about ice in the winter are all great ways to alert
people about specific things on the road.
To become a
better driver isn’t the easiest task in the world because we all have
our faults. For me, I can do better by paying more attention to my
surroundings on the road and making sure I knew where I’m going.
There’s no such thing as the perfect driver but if we all work
together and if we all stay aware of each other’s surroundings then
we can become safe drivers that are beyond adequate for the road.
