Road
To Success

Bing!
Bing! I hear my phone go off in my purse, who could it be? I know my
boyfriend is getting off work soon, maybe he wants to see me tonight.
Taking my eyes off the road for one second could not hurt… I mean
nobody is behind me or in front of me… I am going to grab it and
check it really quick; I mean it couldn’t hurt, could it?

STOP!
I know it is hard to resist a message and that phone going off is
very tempting, but it can wait, the cars pulling out in front of you,
the deer in the road, or that burrow pit cannot. Many young adults
nowadays practice bad behavior behind the wheel. Not only do they
jeopardize their life they jeopardize the lives of other. Speaking
from personal experience and experiencing family members being in
vehicular collisions I know first-hand the danger and the reality of
distracted driving. Now the question that is to be posed is how are
we going to solve the problem? What solutions are there to correct
this bad behavior? Well it comes down to the lack of education and
ensuring the safety of yourself and others.

The
number of car related deaths has sky rocketed over the past decade!
People are starting to ask questions as to why and what is causing
this and as bad as I do not want to admit it, phones may be to blame.
Although most people may be disciplined when it comes to driving and
using their cellphones, most millennials are not. Thus, causing them
to attempt to “multitask” which in reality is just the dividing
of attention between two things. So instead of giving your one
hundred percent to one task you’re giving each task fifty percent
which is, well a fail, least to say. Now you’re probably thinking to
yourself, “yea we get it, I’ve heard this a thousand times.”
Which you are not wrong, but this is the reality of it all, so how
are we going to fix it?

Well
it comes down to knowing the risks you are posing on yourself and
others. Hitting an oncoming car going thirty-five miles per hour will
kill you! And when you grab, your phone and take your eyes off the
road you are increasing those chances and running that risk. Which is
unfair to the driver in oncoming traffic who is following the law
trying to get home to their family. There are steps you can take to
help yourself in the driver seat. Turn your phone off, put it in the
backseat, wear your seatbelt, and give you’re one hundred percent
attention to the task at hand. I struggle to believe the amount of
car related deaths is on the rise due to uneducated drivers, I
believe it is due to ignorant drivers, which can be corrected by
being a little less selfishness and being a lot more involved behind
the wheel.
