It’s
9:30 in the morning, finally sixteen! Getting a license tends to be
the only thing on a teenagers mind. As a young adult, you start
driving and developing these bad habits while driving, thinking it is
okay because you have yet to get into a wreck or pulled over. These
habits only get worse the older you become. There are many ways to
get over this way of thinking texting and driving, checking social
media and driving, being intoxicating and driving are okay.

I
have always lived very far away from my schools that I have went to,
so long car rides were inevitable. When I first turned sixteen, I had
my fair share of texts or snapchats sent while driving. I thought it
was okay because I saw my mother do it all the time. As I started
hanging out with friends, I saw friends text, Snapchat, call, and
everything to stay off their phones while driving. I started getting
friends that would get drunk and be texting me about how they made it
home and that the drive was crazy. I did not think anything about it
at first until I had a classmate a grade above me pass away, driving
intoxicated. I started becoming “that” friend. I would not let my
friends drink and drive, instead I would go get them myself. I even
started to get onto my mother when I got into a car with her and saw
her checking Facebook while driving. I started to see that not only
was my life, but also my whole family in the back seat’s life that
could be gone because she was being careless. I finally realized no
phone or drink was ever worth my whole life.

Driver
education is so important! Drivers ed allows drivers to fully
understand what being able to drive really lets you be capable of.
Drivers ed can reduce the number of deaths while driving by
simply telling people the importance and facts of driving while under
the influence, driving while intoxicated, or being on a phone while
driving. For myself, reminding everyone I know that safe driving is
the only way and not to do any bad habits while driving is how I can
better safe driving. As for others, just know that people are
watching and eventually it will come back to you. If you stop the
unsafe driving now, you could save not only yours, but other people’s
lives.
