Preventing
by Driving Well

Driving
is something done around the world and it has provided people with a
lot of convenience. It has become in many places part of people’s
daily lives. Even so, a lot of deaths have resulted from it as well.
Driving in an unsafe manner can put the driver’s life at risk as
well as the lives of others on the road. Tragedies, however, can be
avoided through education and self-discipline.

If
an educated driver could get in an accident, imagine someone who
doesn’t understand the traffic signs. Tiny details can lead to a
fatal accident, which is why knowing how the road works is so
important. Receiving education on driving before getting on the
driver’s seat is essential to keep every person on the road safe.
When people have the knowledge of how to drive and all the rules
involved, less car accidents happen and, consequently, fewer people
die from them.

Besides
educated drivers, something else can help bring down the number of
casualties linked to driving. Getting distracted and driving under
the influence of a drug have led to a huge amount of fatal car
accidents. Thus, if drivers avoid distractions and things that
negatively affect their capability to drive, they are less likely to
be involved in an accident, which prevents deaths from occurring.
This requires self-discipline. For instance, it is very tempting to
check our cell phones as soon as they sound, and we can think it
takes only a few seconds to answer a text, but it can also take only
seconds for an accident to take place. If we have the self-discipline
to not do things that turn our attention away from driving, we
contribute a lot to our safety and that of those around us on the
road.

I
have never been involved in a car accident, but I have seen people
close to me do inappropriate things while they drive, like texting,
recoding videos, and choosing the car music. People may do improper
things while driving out of need, however. For instance, a driver
could be on the phone because an emergency happened. Yet, as stated
before, those actions could result in somebody’s death; hence, one
must drive in the safest way possible. In order for me to do this, I
can make sure I understand the laws of the road before I begin
driving; I can ask someone else in the car to take care of my texts
and phone calls for me or, if this can’t be done, park the car as
soon as possible and address the situation; I can avoid driving if I
have consumed alcohol; I can make sure my passengers are buckled up;
and I can get maintenance done to my car frequently.

By
encouraging the people I know who drive to put these measures into
action, I can also help them be safer drivers and not pose a danger
for neither themselves nor others.
