Driving related
injuries are the leading cause of death for passengers and drivers.
There are many types of distractions that cause for accidents to
happen on the road and that has to change immediately because when
driving, there should not be any distractions. There are too many
people are the roads, countless lives at risk, and it is not worth
ending anyone’s lives. It takes less than a second for a serious
injury to occur which means that everyone should stay focused on the
roads the entire time they are driving instead of having their minds
wander someplace else.
The importance
of drivers ed is to reduce the number of deaths that occur
because of driving. Drivers ed does an excellent job with
teaching students everything they need to know to be successful on
the road. They teach them well enough to be able to take the driver’s
test and pass it. When people are about to take their test, they are
extra nervous and cautious. That should not stop after passing the
test because everyone should drive on the roads as if they are taking
their driver’s test every single time. Overall, drivers ed is
important because there are many young drivers that are inexperienced
and lack basic, but important, driving skills and that is their job
to help them become prepared, confident, and comfortable driving. If
they are not either one those, they most likely should not be on the
road.
As previously stated, there are numerous types of distractions that
cause for driving injuries and accidents to happen. Steps that can be
taken to reduce that would be for people to stop feeling the need to
check their phones every few seconds and that it does not matter if
it is a quick text because again, it takes less than a second.
Secondly, people should not be driving intoxicated because not only
is it illegal, but it is putting every single person around them in
harm’s way. Steps that I would take to be a better and safer
driver, would personally be to focus on my surroundings more and
realize that it is not just me on the road. I need to pay less
attention of choosing a good song to listen to and just wait because
that is clearly not as important as my own life.
I had a fellow
classmate who went to the same high school as I did who was driving
while high and drunk. They had multiple people in their car and it
was as if it was game because moments before their accident, they
were snapchatting while in the car. Ultimately, they ran into a tree,
their car was totaled, and they ended up being hospitalized and was
in a coma for months. Something that may think it is only going to be
quick, it could turn into a lifelong regret. It is best to be wise
and alert to prevent any life-threatening injuries from happening.
