You Can Prevent Car Accidents

I’ve never been in a car accident myself, but two of my friends
were in serious accidents that could have killed them. Both accidents
were because of another driver running a traffic light and slamming
into the sides of their cars. It is terrifying to know that they have
been through accidents where if the car had hit them just a little
bit differently that they would be dead. That is why it is so
important for people to understand all the aspects of driving and how
one mistake could lead to severe consequences.

In 2017, over 40,000 people died from car accidents, which is the
second consecutive year it has been so high. It has lowered a small
amount more recently, but not by much. Speeding, drunk driving, and
distracted drivers are the top three main reasons there are so many
car accidents and fatalities in America. This needs to end now.

My high school offered Drivers ed. Most people think it is
pointless and a waste of time but, it really does save lives.
Drivers Ed is aimed at teenagers who are the most likely to get in
car crashes because of their phones, or all the late-night
shenanigans. There are so many organizations that work to prevent
distracted driving such as NETS, NHTSA, NSC, AAA, etc. There are
plenty of opportunities out there for people to receive the education
needed to ensure safety out on the streets.

There are so many ways we can prevent car accidents by taking simple
measures. A lot of cars nowadays have Bluetooth talk and text, which
is a helpful way to be able to answer calls, while still focusing on
the road and your surroundings. If you want to go out with some
friends and get a drink, then bring a designated driver or call a
cab. It is better to spend a little extra cash to ensure your safety
and the safety of others, then to risk getting in a car accident.
Speed limits may seem ineffective at times, I will even admit it, but
they are there for a reason, to ensure our safety. If it takes you
five extra minutes to get to your location so be it. Would you rather
risk losing your life or going to jail for taking the life of someone
else?

If I and everyone else does their part and obeys the laws such as no
texting and driving, no drinking and driving, and no speeding, then
the streets will be a lot safer and more people will get to spend
their lives with their families rather than in a grave. There are
men, women, children, and even pets who ride in cars and one mistake
could end any of their lives and cause their families to suffer for
eternity. Together we can lower the number of deaths caused each year
by car accidents and make a change in the world, for the better.
