Attention – It Could Save A Life
While
learning to drive is exciting and makes teenagers feel grown up, it
requires more responsibility than they realize. Many see driving as a
new experience that is a right rather than a privilege. Understanding
the consequences of one’s actions would reduce the number of deaths
that are caused by irresponsible driving. Drivers ed teaches
teenagers about the importance of their actions and provides insight
on how to be safe on the road. This allows them to be more cautious
and develop the skills they need to protect themselves and those
around them. Providing teenagers with safety guidelines and rules
allows them to be more confident in their driving abilities, which
results in more efficient driving. Drivers ed also shows
teenagers what to do when they are involved in an accident regarding
insurance.
In
today’s society, people have access to social media like Snapchat
and YouTube as well as mobile games like Pokémon GO. However,
technology consumes the lives of many. To reduce deaths that occur
during driving, individuals must always pay attention to their
surroundings rather than their devices. Refraining from looking at
their phone can reduce the risk of getting into an accident. In
addition, taking appropriate safety precautions like wearing a seat
belt or fixing mechanical issues can reduce risk. Making others aware
of one’s actions like using appropriate signals can also prevent
accidents.
Driving
safely is important because it could save a life. A month ago, two of
my friends were driving in the rain and got involved in a car
accident. One of them was driving a car with bad brakes and was
unable to stop in time. He hydroplaned and hit my other friend who
was at a stop sign. If he would have gotten his brakes fixed, the
accident would not have occurred. Additionally, he did not have
insurance to pay for the damages, which prevented the other person
from fixing their car. However, both drivers were wearing seat belts,
which stopped them from flying through the windshield. Along with
this accident, my father has gotten into accidents due to the other
person driving irresponsibly. They were not paying attention to the
road and caused danger to other drivers. Apart from accidents, I have
seen my parents and boyfriend texting while driving. This could lead
to accidents as it has caused them to swerve and speed.
There
are many steps I can take to help myself and others drive safely. I
could silence my phone and put it out of sight as well as be aware of
the speed limit. As a passenger, I could offer to text for the driver
or tell them to silence their phone. I could also make them aware of
the dangers of not fixing mechanical issues and not paying attention
to the road. Overall, driving safely is significant because poor
driving decisions could cause accidents. Taking safety precautions
reduces this risk and could save a life.
