Privilege
is a gift, not a given
Driving
is such a common thing in the US that people forget it is a privilege
handed to everyone; not a necessity to life. The same as any other
privilege, being able to drive can be taken away from anyone in an
instant. Regardless of whether it is the parents of a teenage driver,
or the authorities suspending a middle aged man’s license, it is
possible. Having the privilege to drive comes with responsibilities
that if not followed, can result in serious consequences.
The
importance of drivers ed on the road is if a driver knows what
they are doing, and follows the rules of the road, they are almost
safe. The issue is when there are other drivers on the road that are
not properly educated, and do whatever they please. If every driver
in the U.S. would be educated about the rules of the road, there
would be a significant decrease in deaths by car accidents in
America. Although, there are people out there that do have a proper
drivers ed and choose to ignore it, they would be a
miniscule population compared to all the other educated drivers in
the country, and would not bring the death rate by vehicle nearly as
high as it is today.
Furthermore,
people can emphasize the concern about death rate by vehicle, and can
speak out about drivers safety. They can do this by having campaigns
and raising awareness, allowing others to realize the importance of
drivers safety. Another thing that people can do is to create a
campaign that helps people who have been in a severe car accident. By
doing this, people are not only helping others and spreading the
word, but it will allow others to realize how important drivers
education is.
Also,
being a person who has been in a car accident before, and seen peers
driving recklessly, it is very important for younger generations to
learn drivers ed. Teenagers who are the cause of car accidents
more often than not do not know the rules of the road. Having a
required drivers ed class being part of the road to receiving
a license would not only lower death rate by vehicle statistics, it
would lower the amount of car accidents and reckless driving as a
whole.
Finally,
some ways to help myself become a better driver, as well as my peers,
would be to always stay alert on the road and to always take my
driving seriously. There is always room for improvement, therefore
the passenger should always feel comfortable in a car and I would
correct any driving mistakes that would make them feel unsafe. Also,
I would speak up to others who are driving recklessly, and let them
know that they are going to injure themselves or someone around if
they continue; and most importantly, remind them the privilege they
have sitting in their wallet, and that reckless driving could take it
away in an instant.
