Every morning after I buckle
in both my little girls, I pray that all the drivers on the road are
driving alert. Imagine driving every morning in the busiest city,
NYC. In “the city that never sleeps” there are people constantly
working and have been awake for more than 12 hrs. at a time because
of their work obligations. We also have those individuals that love
to party and can party for 2-3 days straight and still have the
audacity to drive. For a mother of two girls; 8-year-old and a 1 year
old, whom grew up in The Bronx, the thought of being in a car
accident haunts me all the time. If I’m gone, who will my children
depend on? You can be the best and safest driver out there, but there
are also individuals whom make the wrong choice in speeding and
driving while influenced.
Growing up I was in 1 car
accident. I was 10 years old, my mother and I were in a taxi at 8:30
PM heading back home from my cousin’s birthday party and suddenly,
we were struck by another car. The car struck the passenger side
where my mother was sitting. Thankfully nothing happened to mother
and we learned that the other driver was a teenage boy just
joyriding. What a shame! 4 lives could have been taken just because a
teenager felt the need to drive a car for fun and put many lives in
danger. With this memory in the back of my mind always, I was scared
to get my drivers permit. While watching the 5-hour class video, I
noticed that most of the people in the classroom fell asleep. Why? Is
safety not important to you while you drive? Are you just interested
in getting your license so you can disregard all the rules of the
road and drive as you please?
Driving education is extremely
important. The rules and regulations of the road must always be
followed. Driving is a tremendous privilege in which the driver
should feel honored that he/she is sought to be trusted to be granted
with the immense opportunity to operate a vehicle in a safe manner.
You must drive while always being alert of not harming anybody or
anything, unlike the people whom just sleep through 5-hour class
video and pass their road test to just drive like maniacs after they
receive their license. I believe that the individuals whom drive
while influenced or decide to speed and make the wrong choices while
driving, there license should be stripped. All little tough or unfair
you may think? I rather the person not to be a danger on the road
than lives being taken from innocent people. If you give people
second and third chances, please remember if they did it once they
will do it again when they see opportunity. Pay attention to the
driving courses, 5-hour class, peers that teach you to drive safe.
Ignore the bad influences because if you don’t drive alert then you
may not be alive tomorrow.
