Passing your
driver’s test and finally getting your driver’s license is an
exciting experience, but most people don’t incorporate what they
have learnt when they actually start driving.

Most people see
drivers ed classes as just something they have to do to
pass a test but in fact it is much more than that. Driver’s
education is very important because it provides you with the
knowledge and skills for being a safer driver and pedestrian. Being
able to read traffic signals and road markings, to adjust vehicle
speed, and to communicate with other drivers while driving by using
your indicators to change lanes, exit and enter roadways are just a
few ways that drivers ed. can encourage safer driving.

Luckily, I have never been involved in a major accident, but I have
been around friends that were driving irresponsibly. They were either
distracted, drunk, or speeding which are the three top causes of car
accidents. I definitely think all simple solutions, such as
breathalyser tests and speeding tickets, have already been exhausted,
so I think the next best solution is full self-driving cars.
I
believe that because our world is becoming heavily dependent on
technology, we should take advantage of it by inventing affordable
self-driving hardware that can be installed in any car. “Drivers”
enter their destination and the car will select the best route and
take them wherever they want to go. Embedded in the software will be
all the traffic signals, road markings, and speed limits which will
enforce all the rules and regulations learnt in drivers ed.

However, we have
a long way to go before we can all have full self-driving cars so for
now I can encourage my friends to stop using their phones while
driving, to stay within the speed limit, and to assign a designated
driver who won’t drink when we go out. For my reluctant friends, I
can introduce them to people who have been seriously impacted by
vehicular accidents, so that they can change their perspective and
become a safer driver on the road.
