All
drivers have the potential to stay safe while trying to reach their
destination. However, the potential lies significantly in whether
they want to utilize safety methods and pay attention to their
surroundings. There needs to be an urge to protect themselves and the
people they care about while in a vehicle because carelessness on the
wheel will only result in severe ramifications.
Driver
education is crucially fundamental because it can aid in giving
drivers a good mindset on how to navigate on the road. Analyzing road
signs and knowing to slow down in severe weather are just a few of
the topics that are learned to maintain safety and prevent terrifying
collisions. This highlights the fact that a driver having background
knowledge on driving is quite beneficial because they learn about the
laws as well as different tips that can help them in certain
situations. This will, in turn, prevent deaths due to collisions from
occurring because a driver will be alert, educated, and expect the
worst situation possible which will help them drive even more safely.
One
considerable issue that has led to an abundance of death due to
collisions is drunk driving. Intoxication from alcohol or drugs
while driving puts people’s lives in danger because a drunk driver
has decreased motor skills and a slower thinking ability. They are a
bit incoherent and may not act rationally which can lead to death
because they did not act quick enough. Steps that can be taken to
prevent this are to not get behind the wheel when intoxicated and
have a trustworthy person transport you home. Even though drunk
driving is a huge issue, there are many other situations in which
death is caused because a person was distracted, not paying
attention, or driving irrationally. Other steps that can be taken to
decrease the amount of death when driving are to not utilize a phone
and keep both hands on the wheel, to not drive over the speed limit
because it seems like a cool thing to do, and to check the vehicle
mirrors frequently so that there is a detailed analysis of the
vehicle’s surroundings.
I
personally have not been in a car accident which I am very thankful
for. I am still learning to drive and want to make sure I am ready
for the road. I have witnessed a close friend driving over the speed
limit sometimes as well as taking a red light. They almost got into a
serious accident and I have warned them countless times to not be
reckless because the adrenaline rush from irrational driving is not
worth it.
As
a driver who is still learning to gain her license, I can be a better
driver by looking at my side mirrors more often and being more
proactive instead of reactive when another driver does something
stupidly unreasonable. Lastly, I can help others by giving them tips
such as leaving a bigger gap between vehicles and not weaving between
lanes.
