Driver
education is very important in reducing deaths along the roadways
because everything you are thought to do is more important than
anything else out there. Even the smallest driver ed details could
help lower the number of deaths if people listened and reminded
themselves of what is taught, before it becomes too late for yourself
or someone else.

What
steps can be taken to reduce the number of deaths related to driving?

In
all cases the steps to reduce the number of road related deaths can
depend on the conditions or areas you’re in. But no matter what when
you are driving or you are ring with someone there are three key
steps to focus on before time slows down. One as everyone say focus
on the road. Not on your phone, the radio, or the distractions along
the roadways. Two keep your eyes on what other drivers are doing in
front of you, beside you, and behind you. It only takes a second for
someone else to begin to drift or lose control. Last, it seems minor
but remember your turning signals, headlights, mirrors, everything
your vehicle has. It only takes a second to look or turn on a light
that lets otherdriver know where you are or where you are going; no
one can read your mind. Through the past 3 years I have been driving
by myself I have been within three driving incidents but have heard
from family members, most who work within the Fire department, what
accidents they have been in and had to go to while on duty. I myself
have been in one minor accident during the winter where I spun off
the road while turning and into a cement pole that luckily caused
only minor damage to the side of my car. But I have almost been in
two major accidents with tractor trailers that could have been a lot
worse. On one occasion while driving home from a trip to Virginia I
let myself get distracted behind the wheel while driving in the right
lane of the highway, while also in the blindspot of a tractor
trailer. Since the driver could not see me he began moving into the
right lane. Luckily I noticed just in time to be able to luckily move
onto the side of the highway, that as luckily clear. Another time
while on a trip down to Georgia I began to have blurred vision from a
migraine and missed the exit i meant to pull off on to take a break.
But instead stopped beside the exit which was on an inline. Instead
of stopping there for a few before trying to get to the next exit I
idiotically decided to try and back up the few feet to get to the
exit I passed. While backing up I clipped a tractor trailers rear
with my cars own; I was lucky enough to not be spun into oncoming
traffic and only come out with some lost paint on my fender. All of
these experiences and those I have heard have made it more personal
and clear to how easy my time can end within minutes if you do not
listen to what you are taught and told about safe driving.

Ever
since my personal experiences of being in incidents while driving I
always leave my phone on silence and away from my view while driving;
unless using gps which even then I update wherever I can, I will be
driving so I don’t get distracted by updates. As well as ensuring I
am well awake before driving, am focused on the road in front of me
and all other drivers around me. I would recommend to any drivers out
there that think road safety is not important to ask those around
them if they have been accidents or seen them. I myself took it for
granted before I saw what it can take from people and take from
families. Even though it may seem like the same thing everyone says
it is true that anyone new or a senior to driving should listen when
people say to turn off your phone, it can wait, and always focus on
what drivers are doing all around you, don’t focus on the
unimportant sign all the way on the other side of the street or the
plane in the sky. It could cost your life, your freedom, your future.
Think about the driver safety classes and videos you see and listen;
before it’s too late for you or someone else.
