marks the day my friend lost her brother Shawn on June 12, 1991.
Although we never got to meet him as we were not born for another 5-6
years. So, in the spirit of summer and all things fun please drink
responsibly and do not drink and drive! You never know whose baby you
could hurt, and you will never 100% understand the trials the family
and loved ones go through even long after they are gone. I hope this
message gets through to those who think it’s better to drive
themselves home when they have been drinking. Please know it’s not
the best option! Although we will never know Shawn in this world, I
do know the pain that comes with my friend not knowing her own
brother or the kind of man he would have become. He was only 5 years
old when he was taken from his brothers, his dad, and his mother.
Remember your choice have consequences although they may not affect
you directly!
I urge everyone
of all ages to learn the rules of the roads and think twice of
actions. That text can wait, your mother will understand you have to
call her back, you don’t need to take a photo or a tik tok of a
funny road sign. Please put your phone out of sight and out of mind,
and call someone even if you think you’re sober. You can keep
yourself and others safe and alive by just minding your actions.
