“Safer Drivers for a Safer Future”

As humanity
progresses further, we find ourselves to be injuring, damaging, and
killing ourselves due to our lack of knowledge, caution, and
execution. Obtaining a license is quite simple; we take a test about
regulations and rules and have a year to practice until we are thrown
into the streets to drive freely. An excited teen, finally freer than
ever, wants nothing more than to drive alone with the music blasting
or simply wants to go to a friend’s house. Their lack of knowledge
causes then to be lost by the many different signs, cars, rules, etc.
Their lack of caution due to excitement cause them to be less
attentive and more reckless. Their lack of execution of stopping at
stop signs or lights causes them to either be seriously injured or
killed.

The way to
prevent car crashes is to educate and prepare young drivers more
efficiently rather than relying on a test to judge their readiness.
Perhaps multiple tests judging different areas of driving, for
example: the type of car that can be used like a pickup truck or
small sports car. Maybe scenario-based questions on the test that can
possibly show how a certain driver will act in a situation. Either
way the current system of obtaining a license is obviously not
working as efficiently as we would like.

I have been in
multiple accidents, fortunately, non were fatal in any way. However,
the experience of a calm smooth ride turning into a sudden thought of
“Is this it?” can be terrifying not only physically but mentally.
Fortunately, I do not have family members or friends who drive
irresponsibly. I have, however, seen the world and its tragedies. The
experience of looking out the window to see bloody faces looking at
their car wrapped around a large metal pole is horrific. We, as a
society, are killing ourselves. As a future driver, I want to be a
responsible driver, not only for my safety but for the people around
me as well.
