How many times in
one day do you find your self on the road? I know I drive at least 3
times a day. Wake up, drive, get off of work, drive, meet a friend,
drive. There seems to be a repeating factor of efficient
transportation that occurs in our daily lives. Although it might be
convenient and the 21st centuries popular way of transportation, but
is it really efficient in the safety realm? Between drunk driving,
texting and driving, or distracted driving, people across the world
cannot keep their focus on this daily action. From the start of a
person’s driving career, the videos and text that certify them to be
on the road explain not only how to drive, but the severity of unsafe
driving. Over and over again I remember the horror stories of people
that have died from unsafe driving and the grieving families of the
other victims. But, people only have to take that course once in
their lives, unless they get a ticket. Informing drivers of all ages
on the amount of deaths that occur each day is important because it
gives them a chance to remember that they are in control of a machine
that can go over 100 mph and can do serious damage. That realization
sometimes does not pass through individuals minds just because it is
a daily action. I personally, have taken the steps to use my hands
free device connected to my car and make sure to put my phone down
while I’m driving. I know that this action can save the lives of
myself, my passengers, and the other people on the road. Although it
is tempting to pick up my phone like my other friends and just
multitask, I know that it is extremely hard to do. I know that the
trips that I make on the road are usually less than 30 minutes and I
know I can wait to answer the phone. Although I have never been in a
car accident, I know the precautions that I must take to avoid being
in one. I know that distracted driving (including texting, eating,
drinking, etc) is a very dangerous act to do while driving and can be
the factor of life and death. I also know that alcohol is another
factor that can cause an unsafe ride experience. That is why I have
promised myself and my peers to never do these acts because I know if
ever committed them it could be putting my life and others lives in
danger. I also have convinced my peers to do the same. While in the
car with my friend or family I convince them to put their phone down
or eat at home. If they refuse, I offer to text for them or hand them
their food. There are always actions that people can take to reduce
the number of deaths on the road, and a life can be saved from the
help of a safe driver.
