Driving
in Our Society
Driving
in our society is a bittersweet deal. Some have the education for it,
while others do not. The percent of people who do not have the
correct education of driving are 75% more likely to get a ticket
driving on the road. Over the years, the numbers of death have
increased due to inadequate drivers’ education. I ask myself, is it
too much to take drivers ed classes? The importance of these
classes is to teach you what you need to know before you go on the
road. These classes play a big role in your life and someone else’s.
Drivers ed is important because it produces safer drivers on
the road decreasing deaths.
To
reduce the number of deaths relating to driving there are easy and
simple precautions to take. First, wear a seatbelt, this should be
the first thing when you enter your car, because it could save you or
your passenger in an accident. Next, make sure you are alert. When
you are behind the wheel dozing off, pull over immediately. Call
someone to pick you up, your life should not be over because you did
not get a good nights’ rest. Lastly, keep your vehicle in good
condition. Make sure your brakes are working and tires are inflated
properly. This is because the better your car condition is, the more
likely you will have a smooth and safe ride.
It
was the summer of 2014 when I and my cousins attempted to go to Tybee
Island, Ga. Yet something happened. Sadly, for my 27-year-old cousin
she got a speeding ticket and a ticket for drinking while driving.
Before the incident, we went to a convince store near her home to
purchase drinks before getting on the highway. She and her brother
purchased beer, vodka, and regular juice. At the time I was 10 years
old and knew what alcohol was but never knew what it looked like. As
time progressed being on the highway for about 30 minutes or so she
opened a can of beer, at that point I knew something was wrong. She
began to drive erratically going above the speed limit and veering
between lanes. I told her to slow down numerous times, but she never
listened. Later, she soon had more cans of beer and the policed
pulled us over on the interstate. He said that she was going 10mph
above the speed limit with that he also gave her a breathalyzer,
which stated she was drunk. The police took her to a nearby jail and
she spent the night in jail. I hope now she learned her lesson.
Steps
to take to become a better and safer driver include, staying focused,
maintaining your vehicle in good condition, and going the speed
limit. As well as, putting on your seatbelt, keeping your distance,
and putting your phone down. In conclusion, becoming a good driver
starts with you because it takes initiative.
