Texting and Driving

The
last text message I sent was “Well I am on my way right now ”.
While I was texting this I was roughly going about 85 miles per hour
on Highway 98. There was no importance at all within this message and
could have been easily been typed before I started driving. The risk
I took to send this message was very high. The annual number of car
accident due to texting and driving is roughly 1.6 million. There
could have easily been an accident, or me losing control at the
wheel. There could have been other consequences such as fines, jail
time, or suspension of my licence.

I
felt the urge to send this message because I did not want to wait on
them leaving their house. I realize now that was a major mistake,
putting my life at risk along with others on the road because I
didn’t want to wait a few minutes is careless and unthoughtful. I
have been reading a lot of the topic mobile accidents and I realize
how risky it actually is. There are so many things that can go wrong
and the consequences that could result.

I
do frequently text and drive. I am constantly driving hundreds of
miles a day and don’t think twice about texting at the wheel. I
originally believed that the more I do it the better I will be at it.
That is not the truth however, by texting and driving at the wheel I
am four times more likely to get into a car accident. I am constantly
on the highway which is dangerous and it’s own way and by texting
while driving on the highway it is not a matter of “if” it is a
matter of “when”.

It
really is not difficult to stop texting and driving. It is a matter
of me putting the safety of people’s lives on the line to send a
quick text. I feel like the most difficult part of stopping would be
stopping in general, it is a habit for me to just pick up my phone
and text. However, it is a habit I am going to learn to break. I
believe I can completely stop texting and driving, and I can find
better solutions. Such as pulling over on the side of the road to
send the text or just sending the text before I get in my car. There
are many simple ways to fix this very dangerous issue and I strongly
believe I am going to stop texting and driving. It is a matter of the
lives I putting on the line including my own and the consequences of
performing this action that I am going to have to deal with. I have
learned that texting and driving is a very serious and deadly issue
that I am going to have break the habit of doing for the well being
of everyone.
