As teenagers we believe once we
get a permit or a license we can drive, but that’s not the case.
The problem is that we don’t know that safety is the most important
thing when it comes to driving whether you are a freshman in high
school to a senior in college. Driving is a privilege and an art not
a game. In
America, an average of 34,000 people dies each year as a result of
driving. This is more people who have died in one year as a result of
driving, than the total number of American soldiers who have died
from war in Iraq and Afghanistan combined. This is to say, driving is
more dangerous and deadlier for our nation than being involved in
combat, and highlights the serious consequences of being
negligent on the road.
The purpose of driver’s
education to reducing the number of deaths as a result of driving is
to teach teenagers not to go over speed limits, knowing when to stop,
or go, knowing the road signs, tickets, teen crashes and so much
more. As teens we believe that as soon as we pass the driver test to
get the license, we don’t need to follow the rules of the road, but
we still do. In addition, to not following the rules, many teens and
adults get in car accidents almost every day, for carless mistakes.
Teenagers are not the only ones causing these accidents, its adults
as well, they may be older and wiser but they still make mistakes
like teenagers when on the road.
When can all reduce the number of
deaths by driving by, not using electronics while driving, following
the rules of the road, always wearing seat belts, always make sure
there is an air bag in the vehicle, be in good condition to drive,
such as: cannot be sleepy, have to be able to see the road.
Fortunately, I have never been in
a car accident, but I heard and seen car accidents in some places.
For example, my mom was in car accident not too long ago, when she
was trying to cross an intersection there was a green light where she
can go but then the other car or person was trying to pass the yellow
light, but instead he or she crashed into my mom’s car in the
middle of the intersection and she had to go to court but didn’t
have to pay he or she back for the accident because it wasn’t her
fault.
There
are many things I can do to help myself and others
to
drive in a safer way. Some of them are just informing people how
much teens, adults, children die in a car accident each year.
Avoiding the use of cellphones, watching the speed limit, slow down
when necessary, and much more.
