Drive
Educated and Save Lives!

Drivers
education is essential for not only teenagers looking to get their
driver’s license, but also for those who simply want to brush up on
driving laws. Its purpose is to provide the knowledge, skills, and
attitude needed for vehicle safety and keeping pedestrians around
safe too. A primary reason accidents happen is because the
inexperience and lack thereof of drivers ed young drivers have.
This is why many value the importance of drivers ed and
training.

There
are quite a few studies that show how significantly driver’s
education reduce the amount of accidents and traffic violations from
new drivers. According to the University of Nebraska, 2.1% of those
who took drivers ed were involved in an accident that caused fatal
injuries or death, in comparison to 2.6% of those who did not take
drivers ed. Drivers ed is so important in
reducing the number of deaths caused by driving because 95% of all
car crashes are caused by drivee error and not knowing driving laws.

There
are many steps that can be taken to reduce the number of deaths
related to driving. Since driver safety is the main focus of driver’s
ed, new drivers who go through the program are involved in fewer car
accidents and fatalities. Its best recommended for new driver’s to
take a drivers ed course, because people (especially
teenagers), are more likely to listen to professionals rather than
their parents. It is also said that teens who complete driver’s
education programs score higher on the driving exam and demonstrate
greater long-term knowledge of driver safety than their peers who did
not take drivers ed.

I
have been in a car accident, but it was not at fault of the driver of
the car I was in. The other driver simply did not look before backing
out of her driveway, causing her to hit the car I was in. No one was
injured, but the tail light did get broken. Also, I have been in the
car with people who drive above the speed limit, and I know that can
be very dangerous in some cases. Thankfully, I personally have never
been in a serious car accident that caused serious injuries or
fatalities, but I do know people who have all because they were not
aware of driving laws or just did not follow them.

I
am currently enrolling in a drivers ed program to get my
license. To help others with driving safer, I could just remind the
importance of saving your life as well as those around you. One wrong
mistake can cause you, a passenger, another driver, or even a
pedestrian to lose their life. Even for those who have had their
license for a while, it wouldn’t hurt to re-educaate yourself of
the laws of the road.
