Pump the Brakes

Life moves so much
faster with the invention of new technology. Everyone is always
moving, trying to be first. This also applies to driving, where the
speed limit is regarded as more of a suggestion than law. I’ve been
driving for nearly a year and I know firsthand how impatient drivers
are. Living life in the fast lane isn’t all it’s cracked up to
be. Many car collisions are the result of everyone trying to move too
fast. I’ve been rear-ended and my sister was involved in a
collision because the driver made a reckless turn and my sister was
driving too fast to stop. My mom continually gives advice, nuggets
like ‘when you’re approaching an intersection, slow down’ and
‘don’t let anyone influence the way you drive’. It has allowed
me to become a safer driver, driving confidently within the speed
limit. I have managed to have an otherwise incident-free driving
record. Teaching others about how to drive safer is crucial to
keeping themselves and others safe on the road. Driving is not as
simple as getting to point A to point B. My mother has also told me
that you have to anticipate how others drive. Make use of your
mirrors, move to the side if you feel someone driving aggressively
behind you, and leave early so you don’t have to rush in the first
place are all lessons I learned from my mother. So don’t be afraid
to pump the brakes and slow down!
