Driving
is too often taken for granted. We assume driving is a right and that
no matter what we do we’ll still be able to continue driving. That
is a myth. Driving is a privilege. Driving is something that can’t
be messed up without putting your life and the lives of others in
danger.
To
reduce driving-related deaths, more information should be given to
new drivers before going on the road, and extra courses should be
offered on driver safety to promote safety. For older drivers who get
too comfortable on the road and in turn drive risky, a course should
be required for them to take each year to make sure their driving
knowledge is still sharp and to ensure that they remember all the
rules of the road and understand the risks of driving. I have been in
a car accident, well to be more accurate I’ve been in a bus
accident. I was driving home from school when my bus swerved off the
road into a tree, while the only person injured was my bus driver
with a cut hand from the windshield, it was a terrifying experience
and while the actual cause was never released to me it has cautioned
me to be more aware of my driving now that I drive. It humbled me, it
made me realize accidents, deadly or not, can happen to anyone and
they don’t only affect the driver, they affect everyone. Driving safe
is the most important thing you can do to protect yourself from
accidents, injury, and death. Driving is dangerous and is done daily
by most people and when a daily task becomes more lethal than war
something is wrong. It will take every single driver on the road to
cooperate and change that fact and make driving a safer experience
for everyone. When my dad was teaching me how to drive, he always
stressed to me the importance of defensive driving. While you may be
driving perfectly the people around you aren’t always going to be.
You must be prepared for others to mess up. While an accident may not
be your fault the consequences are shared by all involved. Don’t
take driving for granted, drive safely, and save lives.
