Driver
safety is important for everyone. There is no one on earth that is
immune to the chances of a dangerous encounter when behind the wheel.
The safety of drivers is extremely important for each and every
person because even though one might not drive, they may still be
passengers or pedestrians. There are several different areas in
driver safety from drivers ed to learning how to be safer every
time you get into the driver’s seat.
Driver
education is important because the road can be a potentially
dangerous environment if someone isn’t well-versed in the rules and
regulations. If we didn’t prioritize educating drivers the roads
would be filled with mayhem and chaos. By knowing the rules of the
people make wiser decisions, and wiser decisions ultimately lead to
safer streets for everyone. The number of deaths related to driving
can even be reduced simply by properly educating drivers. After
receiving your license there should be a mandatory re-education
course that is free and available to everyone. The course can educate
on the basic rules of the road, new rules in one’s community, and
safe driving techniques.
An
experience I’ve had with an accident is not a pleasant one. One
day, on the way back from school, a car hit the rear end of my
mother’s car. The damage wasn’t that bad, but the car sped off.
The moment was extremely traumatizing, and my neck was stiff for a
week. I was worried I damaged a nerve, but it eventually got better
and I am thankfully still alive. When I think back on the experience
it reminds me that driving safely isn’t enough to stop an accident
you must also be proactive and watch what others are doing on the
road so that their mistakes won’t end up negatively affecting you.
Whenever I see my friends driving irresponsibly, I remind them that
life is precious so that they can think twice before answering that
text, or anything else that may distract them while driving.
As
a friend it is important to encourage your friends to be safe
drivers. It may seem lame, but nothing is worse losing a life.
Although, I cannot just talk I must also act. I proudly practice safe
driving techniques while I drive. I do not use my phone, or drive
without my glasses, or speed, or anything else that may put my life
or others’ lives at risk. The best way to lead is by example so I
make sure to show my friends that I practice what I preach. In the
end I just want my friends to be safe, so I do everything I am able
to make sure they are not driving distracted.
