The Charge To A Responsible Driver

With
a rising toll in roadway related deaths and injuries, it can seem
like a daunting task to partake in the Highway Transportation System.
However despite the ever-increasing risk that is associated with the
HTS, it should not be a deterrent, but rather a tool to educate
drivers of all levels and ages. That being said, it is important for
Drivers ed courses to stress the responsibility of drivers on
the HTS, so that they may understand how to avoid accidents,
accommodate and plan for the worst situations, and how to react in a
high-stress situation.

Certain
steps can be employed to insure that the number of deaths related to
driving is reduced, these include having a concentration on real
instances of driver accidents and deaths showcased in drivers
education. It is important for novice drivers to understand that
these deaths are more than just a number and a statistic, but rather
these deaths are very much real, and affected so many around them.
New Legislation should also be considered for drivers ed such
as licensed drivers having to take a refresher course in driver
safety when renewing their license.

I
am no stranger to my friends and family driving irresponsibility, the
most prevalent being my parents engaging in eating or applying makeup
while driving, or my brothers period of road rage shortly after he
got his license. The case for my parents engaging in unnecessary
multitasking is an example of how older drivers begin to think they
are above being aware and responsible. It is this arrogance that
leads to accidents and deaths. As in the case of my brothers road
rage, this is an example of how drivers ed courses wrongfully
instill a sense of entitlement into teenagers into thinking that they
are the best drivers, when in reality that is furthest from the
truth.

In
order to become a better driver, I can be sure to understand the
Highway transportation System as both a privilege but also a high
stress area that requires a one-hundred percent attention span. I can
also take refresher courses as needed to ensure that I am keeping to
the regulations of the road, therefore making the HTS safer for not
only myself but for others.
