No Fear, There Are Safe Drivers
Here!
Most car accidents occur when the
driver’s attention is elsewhere and they have taken their eyes off
the road, whether it be too many distractions in the car or on the
streets. Accidents can also happen because of intoxication and the
driver not being one hundred percent aware of everything going on
around him/her.
Educating
young adults and teens before allowing them to drive is crucial
because not only do they take in this information but they see the
impact it can have on the decisions they make on whether or not they
want to follow the safe driving rules. Educating them on not only
being safe on the road but what can and what has happened as a
consequence when not being safe can really make a difference on how
serious and cautious they are on the road.
In
all honesty, the rules that need to be followed the most are; to
follow the speed limits, be extra cautious or patient with other
drivers, and be completely aware of your surroundings. For example,
if you see a car coming at ten mph faster than the limit, but you
think you have time to turn and get in front of them, you may be
making a mistake because you don’t know if they are paying attention
and know they are going past the speed limit or if they are going to
continue speeding up. In this situation your best and safest interest
should be to wait until they pass you. Following these rules could
save so many lives and it really isn’t hard to do or a lot to ask
for.
Unfortunately,
this past week my cousin died in a motorcycle accident. He wasn’t
wearing a helmet and rode over gravel and he lost control causing him
to hit his head and crack his skull. This was something completely
unexpected and heartbreaking for my family and me. Just in an instant
we lost a family member and there was nothing we could do for him
anymore. It still comes to us as a shock and we are having a hard
time accepting this loss. As drivers, when we don’t take the
necessary precautions such as not wearing a helmet, not only are we
impacting our own lives but the lives of our loved ones.
As
a safe driver I can start by putting my phone on Do not Disturb mode
while I am driving. Patience is a virtue, so they say. When it comes
to driving I definitely need to be more patient with the other
drivers. Most importantly, I need to give myself more time to get to
where I am going. This will prevent me from speeding or being rushed,
therefore I can be a safer driver.
Being
educated and knowing the importance of following the rules and safety
guidelines on driving, we have a better chance of preventing deaths
and truly living with no fear because there are safe drivers here.
