Lives on the Road
Lives of Drivers
Driving is a huge responsibility, each individual’s life on the road is in your hands. In order to have a better understanding of the rules and laws of the road each person wanting to acquire a driver’s license should take a driver education class. The class will help emphasize skills drivers should have to avoid danger and accidents. Once you have a better understanding of how to adhere to speed limits, follow the directions on signs, and deal with stressful situations on the road it will help to limit the amount of fatalities due to poor driving skills.
Drivers can take many steps in order to lessen the number of deaths on the road. In order to make sure you are keeping yourself and the passengers in your car safe, you should always be paying attention. The driver should always be aware of their surroundings. You can do this by keeping your full attention on the road and not letting your phone or other passengers distract you. If the weather is bad outside you should be prepared for poor road conditions as well. Another way to reduce the amount of deaths on the road can be to make sure the driver is fully capable of driving. They should not be tired or intoxicated when stepping into the driver’s seat. Never get into the car with someone who can not give their full attention to the road.
I have seen many of my friends in high school driving very recklessly. Many times it often seems like a game to them of who can drive more dangerously. One was put in their place this past summer when they were following the car in front of them too closely, and rear ended them. The car accident could have been severely worse though, they were on a bridge and could have easily hit just a little harder and fallen off. Ever since then he has driven much more safely and not only scared him, but the passengers in his car. Driving is an enormous responsibility and should be taken seriously.
With the increase in deaths on the road, I will start to be more aware of my surroundings. The increase of speed in cars has put many lives at risk as well. Many cars will speed by you on the road, or recklessly pass you. A car accident may not always be your fault, but we should all find ways to prevent the serious issue happening. Some things I will begin doing, and advising others to do is to turn the music down. Loud noises are a huge distraction to drivers and take part of their attention off the road. Before I begin driving, I always put a music playlist on and do not get on my phone again. The cellphone is a major distraction and causes almost six times as many accidents as driving under the influence. Another distraction that causes issues is having lots of people in the car. Oftentimes you see lots of people piling into one car and that increases the risk of accidents. The more the people there are, the more distractions there will be. Everyone should increase their education on the rules of the road before getting into the driver’s seat.
