Driving Responsibly an Essay

In 2019 38,800 people died due to car accidents in the United States of America which is a slight improvement over the 2018 estimated amount of deaths due to car crashes which were 39,404. This slight improvement still is not enough however and even more, improvements can still be made, which will be gone over later, but first, some other stuff needs to be gone over like why drivers education is so important to correct this continuous problem in the U.S.
Driver’s education is a very important step in a young driver’s understanding of the road because it gives them a chance to really understand all the signs you may come across while driving in your city or even in your neighborhood. Drivers ed also teaches the students how to handle certain situations they might face while driving like turning onto a double laned road or how to handle roundabouts. If people didn’t take driver’s ed and weren’t taught about these signs or situations they could panic once they’re out on the road alone for the first time and they encounter these things. One of the many things I think that could make the roads safer is if all states require their drivers to take driver’s ed no matter what age unlike the state of Ohio which has a law allowing people to not go through driver’s ed when they turn 18.
Some other things that could reduce car accident deaths are if the in-car driving tests go further in-depth than they currently do instead of just 5 minutes of driving around neighborhoods for their driver’s tests I think the people being tested should have to go on a highway for a little stretch to prove they can handle the most intense area of driving. Another way to make driving safer is if there is more police supervision on the roads to potentially stop any dangerous drivers before they can cause harm to unsuspecting drivers. A different option is for car manufacturers to make cars dead zones while the car is on for cell phones so that way drivers have no reason to be on their devices.
While I never have personally been in an accident I was a witness to one of the worst car accidents I’ve ever seen. I was in the car with my best friend and his mom and while we were driving there was a truck driving ahead of us and an SUV coming towards us on the other side of the road and the truck in front of suddenly swerved into the other lane and collided with the SUV, both cars flipped and tumbled off the side of the ride with SUV ending up back on its tires. My friend’s mom pulled over, called 911, and went to check on the person in the SUV along with other witnesses. The victim in the SUV was a young 20-year-old lady, the last I heard the lady was able to survive the accident but it was a long recovery process. That accident made it very evident to me at a young age how important it is to be a safe driver.
Some ways I can stay safe on the road are making sure I always have a seat belt and that I never have my phone insight while on the road. The most important way I can stay safe and help others stay safe is that I make sure I always have my eyes on the road and I’m looking out for other unsafe drivers. Some ways I can make others safe is by helping friends home if they’re under the influence or reporting any suspicious driving to the police that I see.
