Importance of Driver Education

Driver education is an important issue that not very many people are aware of nowadays. To receive a driver’s license and to be legal to drive on the road all that is needed to be done is to take a written test and to take a short basic driving test. Making driver education a more important discussion in beginning drivers could possibly prevent automotive deaths and make the road a safer place to be.

To start, driver education can help reduce the number of deaths on the road. With tasks like lane switching, the importance of checking your blind spots, and understanding what every road sign means can help people become more aware when driving. One thing that I believe needs to be emphasized more when teaching someone to drive is the fact that driving should be the only thing on your mind when in a car behind the wheel. Your 100% focus should be on driving and the safety of the people in your car and also the people in the other cars around you.

Continuing on, there are many steps that can be taken to make driver education more of a focus. Some of these steps start with teaching teens who are just learning how to drive the proper rules and precautions to follow. Driver’s education class is a good example of a class all students should take. This class can help you learn more about the knowledge side of driving and also it will give you an opportunity to participate in hands-on learning. In the class, you spend half of it learning out of a book and the other half is spent safely driving on the road with an instructor present. This class is one of the best ways to learn more on the subject of driver’s education.

Another way to help people learn more about driver’s education before they take the road is to make the test that is needed to receive a driver’s license a little more difficult to get. As of now all that is needed to receive a driver’s license is a short fifteen minute written test that is not that difficult to pass. There also is a short driving test that includes going through a stop sign, stop lights, and more of the basics. What needs to happen is a more complex way to receive a license.

I have had a few experiences in my younger years of people I know driving irresponsibly. What I witnessed was people being on their phone while behind the wheel and people rolling through stop signs. These may not seem very bad, but in certain situations these could have caused accidents or serious injury. My goal is to be the best driver I possibly can and to make sure if anyone is watching me drive that I am doing it correctly.

There are many steps that the everyday person can take to become a safer driver and to promote driver education. The main step being to lead by example. The most important thing to do is to not let your peers see you drive irresponsibly. This will help them not create poor driving habits and to drive safely. Something that I can do to promote driver education is to speak up when I see an inexperienced driver. In this case the proper thing for me to do would be to educate them and help them become better. I will also continue to educate myself on driver’s education and continue practicing good driving habits.
