All it takes is one second
Close your eyes and imagine this example, someone came into the emergency room with a heart attack. There are two doctors, one with a PhD in medicine and the other is a student. Which do you think is going to save the patient? The one with the PhD in medicine. Now compare this with driving. One with driver’s education and the other without. The one with driver’s education will know what to do in emergency situations. Like if a car hit them, they would know to calm down and call insurance first and not yell, fight, and push all the blame on the other driver. They know from right and wrong, what to do and what not to do. Such as not drinking if they know they will be driving later. Even if it means, missing out all the house fun at a friend’s party and having to drive the rest of their friend’s home. It’s better to be safe than sorry. If the other person didn’t take driver’s education, then they will do all those things and may resulted in a criminal record.
The first steps that needed to be taken to reduce the number of deaths related to driving is to know all the basic rules and learn from other’s experience. Follow the speed limit, even if it’s too slow for your taste. Turn on headlights, wipers, and drive slower when in rainy weather. Don’t honk at people when they are driving too slow, instead respect them, and just go around them. Stay 3 feet away from bikers or if possible, go in the other lane. These are just a few, but once you have the basic rules of the road down then it’s time to learn from other’s experience. Why did they get into an accident, know their story and learn from it so you won’t make the same mistake as them. By doing these, not only can one avoid death but also help other become safer on the road. Remember, all it takes is one second, one second, it’s enough to kill someone. By following all these steps, you can avoid that one second.
It was earlier this year, my mom was driving, and I was in the passenger’s seat, we were on the highway when suddenly, we got hit by another car. To this day, we still don’t know how it happened, cause the car that hit us was apparently abandoned, it first hit one car and with the remining force, somehow turned 90 degrees and hit us. The moment we got hit, believe it or not, I didn’t panic nor cry. I was basically emotionless and the only thing I can think in my mind was call insurance and get the phone number from the other person. That was what was taught to us in driver’s education. All the step just repeated in my head, and I know in order to avoid unwanted mistakes in the future, I need to follow them. My mom on the other hand was in pretty rough shape, since it’s been a long time since she took driver’s education, she had forgotten all the steps and was crying. I calmed her down, and we did all the steps we needed to do.
