In The Driver’s Seat

In the Driver’s Seat

Driving is a major responsibility and everyone behind a wheel should know exactly what they are doing. I strongly believe taking driving classes should be required for everyone especially teenagers and young adults. Accidents can happen and sometimes they are unavoidable depending on the situation of course, but by taking a driving course, it can reduce the number of accidents people have and even reduce the number of deaths. Some very important steps that can be taken to reduce the number of deaths related to driving are; do not text and drive. Do not even use your phone when you are behind a wheel. It can be distracting and cause you to lose focus on the road and your surroundings. Another important step is to not be intoxicated when you know you are going to be behind a wheel. Intoxications can include anything that alters your senses and your ability to think rationally and clearly. If you are an emotional person and are not in the best mood and now that is all you are thinking about, it can lead to a serious accident or even someone’s death.

In my personal experience I have witnessed other people driving irresponsibly and I have seen the consequences of their actions. There was this one time it was late at night and I was in my room when I heard this loud crash right outside my window. Someone had drove right into my dad’s truck. When we went outside to check what had happened we noticed those people tried fleeing. Long story short the police came and as it turns out the driver was intoxicated by alcohol. It affected his ability to think rationally and he even put his wife and other people who were in the car in danger. All of that could have been avoided and never happened if he was driving responsibly.

Additionally, some steps to become a better driver as well as help others become safer on the road are to not get distracted with anything. This can include having a phone near you, having the radio on too loud to the point where you cannot hear what is happening outside, or even consuming food because you only have one hand on the steering wheel. Some people think that they can multi task and that it will not affect them, but they only say that because it just has not happened to them. It is better to just reduce some of these things or just not do them at all to ensure the safety of you, your passengers and others around you. Some important things to not only reduce, but to also just try to avoid all together are drugs and alcohol and getting behind a wheel.

In conclusion, it is always a good idea to get driving lessons and to be mindful of other people around you and to try and follow these steps to ensure your safety and the people you care about.
