Drive Safer and Smarter

Drive Safer and Smarter

I ask my friend for a ride. No sense in the both of us driving if we are going to the same place. I hop in the car. She begins to drive and we talk, as usual. As we drive, she receives a few snapchats which she decides to answer. She knows the roads like the back of her hand so I assume she should be able to answer the snapchats and drive well, right? She puts her phone back down only to pick it up again moments later to change the song. I can’t say anything because she’s doing me a favor and driving. That’s when we collide with another car. We were lucky to make it out without a scratch but not everyone is able to say this. Is this what must happen for us to learn? Many people do not comprehend the true dangers that come with driving until something happens to them or someone they love.

An educated driver is a better driver. The more educated a driver is on the rules of the road and the responsibilities that come with being behind the wheel, the more inclined they will be to follow them. Many dangers of driving can be alleviated and combated by educating drivers on the dangers that come with operating vehicles and by creating more defensive drivers. Waiting a few more minutes to answer that text or snapchat or changing the music could mean all the difference. Those texts and notifications will not impact your life in 20 years but what could is the devastation a car accident can cause. Turn your music down a little. Keep your vehicle functioning to the best of its ability. Be aware of your surroundings and allow for others to be aware of you and your actions. It only takes a second or two to use your indicator but it can mean all the world to others around you.

The most important thing to remember is you are not invincible in a car no matter how comfortable you feel with driving. It does not matter if you have never been in a wreck or gotten a ticket, it very well could happen to you. Life is unpredictable. No matter how good of a driver you believe you are or how well you know the roads you drive, you must still commit to driving responsibly and being as safe as possible. Remember everything can impact you while driving such as your thoughts, feelings, emotions, and your level of consciousness. So many things go into account when you are behind the wheel. Do not let the road you take now be the last one.
