The Importance of Being a Safe Driver

The Importance of Being a Safe Driver

There’s a reason safe drivers save 40%.  An educated driver is the safest person on the road. It is not enough to just have a safe car. A Subaru will not save your life when you roll that stop sign because “there’s never anyone there anyways.” It also cannot help you when you go to check “just this one text.” Every driver needs to know the rules of the road before getting behind the wheel, or it could be detrimental to everyone around them. A way we can ensure everyone knows these lifesaving rules would be to require everyone who possesses a license to retake the permit test every few years. This may not be a very popular opinion, but it would ensure our roads’ safety. I, personally, have never been in an accident, but my family members have been in quite a few. Most of the time, it is due to ignorant drivers. Unsafe driving, on the other hand, is a very common occurrence between my family and friends. I try my best to discourage things like texting and driving by taking their phones and reading the notifications for them. Sometimes I even respond for them. I am not the safest driver either, though. I may always use my blinker and never roll stop signs, but I do speed most of the time. When I catch myself speeding, I do my best to safely coast down to the allotted limit while still going with the flow of traffic. The only thing we can really do to ensure safe driving is to hold everyone we know, ourselves included, accountable for our actions and decisions on the road.
