Driver’s Ed Importance

Driver’s Ed Safety

Taking drivers Ed is so important because it teaches new drivers the rules of the road and how to drive safely throughout their lives. This reduces the risk of car crashes and also reduces the chance of injuring yourself or others around you on the road. Attending drivers Ed also ensures that students will drive with an instructor so they can not only learn and be tested on the rules in class, but also be held accountable to keep the speed limit and follow the road safety rules. Another helpful thing that comes from taking drivers Ed is the drivers manual that is given to every student. Studying the manual is also a big help with the written exam that is required to get a license. The manual goes in depth about every rule of the road, traffic light meaning, and traffic signs that will be seen while driving. Knowing what traffic signs mean and how to follow them correctly will reduce the risk of car accidents in any situation.

One step that can be taken to reduce a car accident and reduce the number of deaths from them is to make sure that your car is in good condition to drive. Doing the small things such as making sure the airbags work correctly, adjusting the mirrors so that you have the best visibility possible, always checking tire pressure, and wearing seatbelts can make all the difference in a scary situation. Do not drive, or let others drive you if they are intoxicated, buzzed, or very tired. This clouds their judgement and slows their reaction time while operating the car. There are many consequences that can come from being in a car that crashed or caused a crash while the driver was under the influence. Putting your phone away while driving is key to driving safely. Being distracted by a phone call or a text message can take your focus off the road for longer than you can expect. Taking your eyes off the road and your hands off the wheel puts not only you at risk but others around you. While driving, I put my phone on do not disturb so my full focus can be on the road. I also put my phone out of my reach so that I am not tempted to check it here and there throughout the time I am driving.

A couple of years ago while with my dad and sister on a business trip, our car was T-boned by a driver that didn’t understand a commonly seen traffic sign at a very busy intersection. That experience scared me very badly. I realized at a young age that so much harm and damage can be done by not understanding the simple things on the road. After that happened, I made a goal to know what every traffic sign and light meant as I took the drivers Ed course in the following years. This experience has helped me be more aware of what is happening around me and has motivated me to be a more educated driver and understand the road rules.
