Drive Smarter
Drivers Education Essay
Studies show that teens who undergo the drivers education course are safer on the roads, this is because they learned the rules and regulations when you’re driving. It’s safer to learn about drivers education either before you’re getting your license or when you’re in the process of getting it, that way the knowledge will be safe in your brain when you get your license and start driving. When you get behind the wheel you’re not only in charge of making sure you get home safely but also your passengers or people around you. Some big reasons why this is such an issue is because people think that they can multitask as they drive, they also drive distracted and under the influence, and lastly lots of accidents are caused by people that don’ t remember the rules of the road when they’re driving.
There are a great deal of people that i’ve met and driven with that say “oh no it’s okay!! I can drive and text at the same time.” That’s extremely false, once you pick up your phone and you start focusing on texting someone back or changing your music playlist you’re now focusing on your phone and not the things going on around you and you’re no longer paying attention to the road either. This is a proven fact, I learned it in my AP psychology class when we were studying the human brain. Our brain is not able to multitask because it just doesn’t work that way. The brain really can’t perform two high-level brain functions at the same time, breathing and your blood pumping don’t count as multitasking because those are low-level brain functions.
People that drive distracted and under the influence of drugs or alcohol think that it’s okay because in their minds they’re coherent in their own thoughts so it’s “okay” to them. These people put others that are driving on their same roads in extreme danger, they’re putting their lives and the lives of others in a lot of danger. There is no logical excuse for driving under the influence of any drug that alters your reality and alcohol. In a website that I found it said that everyday, almost 30 people die in drunk-driving crashes. That’s basically one person every 50 minutes, that is so sad. I’ve never personally known anyone that has died from a drunk-driving related crash but I can only imagine how heartbreaking that is, just because someone was driving under the influence.
According to www.asirt.org every year there are approximately 1.35 million people that die in road crashes each year. Everyday there are about 3,700 people that lose their lives on the road. I know that my mom got in a car accident once because someone was running a red light and she started going because her light turned green and they spun her car around. In drivers education courses you learn to not run red lights and to SLOW DOWN at yellow lights, not speed up. I’ve also heard of a lot of accidents that are caused by people that don’t fully stop at the stop signs and people will think that they’re able to go because they got there first and they’ll start going but then someone will hit them as they’re going because they didn’t stop at the stop sign. Here in Utah and places that snow a lot during the winter always have the people that forget how to drive completely and i’ve seen those people just completely hydroplane and slide off of the road, this ultimately causes a domino effect and then it just keeps on happening because they forgot how to drive in the snow.
All in all, drivers education is super important if you’re wanting to start driving and even people that have been driving sometimes need a refresher of all of the rules and that’s okay. You want to make sure that you don’t forget anything important that you really need to remember. Never ever ever drive under the influence it’s a huge mistake that will haunt your life forever. Don’t drive distracted either thinking that you can multitask, multitasking doesn’t exist. When you’re a teen, texting and driving is a lot more prominent than when you’re an adult because you don’t want to miss out on stuff that your friends are doing, teens want to be able to stay in the loop of things, but please just wait until you’re fully stopped and parked to text them back and see what they’re doing. Don’t drive dumb, get educated on the things that are important so that you and others don’t get injured in the process of driving.
