Driver Education and Solutions

In order to drive safely one must first be educated and well versed in the many different types of situations one can be put in. Learning how to drive a vehicle is essential in causing less deaths by car accidents since many young people get into car accidents during different weather patterns such as ice, snow, and heavy rain. If we teach them how to drive safely during these situations then there would be far less injuries for both the drivers and the civilians. If people know what to do when the road is slick by rain or black ice then they wouldn’t unknowingly make the whole situation more dangerous for both them and others. I personally understand the importance of safety on the road when it’s cold outside as I have been in a car accident with my mother because of ice on the road.

We were on our way to school like any other day when we skidded on ice that made us hit the person in front of us. This happened because she slammed on her breaks when someone sped on through the stop light on the left from the turnoff we were going up. I wasn’t hurt in the collision, however my mom was in a boot because of a severely sprained ankle for almost a year. Now I know that this accident wasn’t severe in any sense, however if that person who sped through learned not to go through the turnoff when the light was red my mother wouldn’t have been hurt. She’s fine now , however I still am apprehensive about that turnoff every time I have to use it because of this incident.

There are a few steps that we can take to make it safer for beginning drivers and civilians alike. We can teach them when the lights are red what they can and can’t do, when they can turn or not, what to do if they hydroplane or skid on ice, and many other situations where they would need prior knowledge in order to act responsibly. We would also have to teach them how to ignore everything that’s a distraction so they can focus solely on the road and the area around them. Most beginners get distracted by their surroundings or phones while driving causing them to have accidents, however if they paid more attention to the road this wouldn’t happen.

The distraction from their phones can be solved if they are placed either out of sight or if the car they possess has bluetooth connectivity. When their car is connected to their phone they can answer calls and text with a simple press of a button and a clear voice. This function has helped me with many important conversations with family while on the road so I believe it can be used to help solve the phone’s problem of distracting the driver. If the car doesn’t have bluetooth then they just have to place their phone in either the glove compartment or somewhere they can’t reach so it is unaccessible.
