Driver Safety

Driver safety is a very important topic that should be discussed especially for teenagers because car accidents are one of the top leading causes for teen deaths. I myself am going through driver education right now and I can say that it has really opened my eyes to how dangerous driving can be not only for the driver but for the passengers in the vehicle, the other cars, and pedestrians walking. Without the proper training and teaching young kids are getting into the car and act reckless by being on their phones, drinking, and just overall not being aware of what’s going on around them because they are distracted. By having driver education hopefully what people learn will stick with them and help create safe habits they can take on the road. I think steps that can help prevent deaths on the road would have to be police officers being more harsh on young people for breaking any rules of the road. I believe if they became tougher and handed out bigger fines or even suspended their licenses’ then young people would be less likely to speed or break any other rule. I say this because a lot of my friends have told me about how easy it is to get away with speeding, and even when they get pulled over the cop doesn’t do anything so the kids don’t get in trouble. If teens don’t feel pressure about getting into trouble they are just going to keep breaking the rules and then speeding is risking the lives of everyone else around them.

I have never been in a car accident myself, but recently in my town there was an awful hit and run that was caused by a couple teens driving. They were under the influence when they drove off the road and struck a married couple into a wooden fence where the woman was impaled. This really stuck with me because if I make any mistake while driving it could ruin the life of a complete stranger who didn’t deserve for this to happen to them. Steps that I can take to become a better and safer driver is to take what I learn during my driving education and actually use it while driving. A lot of people once they pass their driving test start to create bad habits that can risk other people’s lives. However, I believe if I stick to what I was taught which was to drive safe, be aware, and have common sense then I believe that I will be safe as well as anyone else around me. Finally by doing this I can become a good role model for my younger siblings so that they can become safe and responsible drivers when they grow up. I believe the children develop driving habits from their families and that is not always the best thing. Parents or older siblings can be irresponsible drivers and the child will think that is how they should drive. So this is why I believe that it is important to teach children about driver safety so that they can grow up learning how to be a responsible driver so that when they are old enough to start driving the lessons will already be instilled in their brains.
