The Importance of Educated Drivers

Orion Baker-Porazinski

Driving is an amazing freedom. But it isn’t a game. Understanding how dangerous driving irresponsibly is can help people make the smarter, safer choices. The first step in becoming a safe driver is becoming educated. I attended a Driver’s Education class through my school, and I am very happy I did so. If I hadn’t I would not be the driver that I am today. If you know how to drive safely, you will be more likely to drive safely yourself. I was recently in a car accident that was my fault, so I know first hand how dangerous driving irresponsibly can be. There are many steps that can be taken to ensure your safety as well as the safety of those around you.

Due to the fact that I took Driver’s education, I learned of many tragic statistics and accidents that resulted in death. I believe that if everyone learned about these accidents, they would be more willing to drive safer. It would reduce the total number of deaths from driving, which is why driver education is so important.

There are many steps that can be taken to reduce risks and accidents for yourself and others. I have learned this from my driver’s education course, and through personal experience. The first and most important step is education. You can become a safe driver before you ever put your foot on the gas. Enrolling in Driver’s education can help you learn all about car safety and what to expect. This is especially helpful in preparation for when you do get your license, and may save lives later on. Another step is straightforward – follow the law. There is a reason for every regulation, and that is to keep people safe. Wear your seatbelt. Do not drive faster than the speed limit. Following the rules is extremely important in preventing death, and keeping yourself safe.

About five months after I got my license, and I had bought my first car, I made one of the biggest mistakes of my life. As I was on my way to work, I took my mind off of the road to change the song. When I looked up, I was heading straight into a telephone pole. My brand new car was totaled, and I was absolutely scarred. My license was suspended, I was in extreme pain, and I paid numerous bills as a result. It was one of the worst times in my life. The only positive was that I wasn’t driving with anyone, and that the only person hurt was me. If this wasn’t the case, I don’t think I ever would have recovered. I learned my lesson. Driving safely is now the only thing on my mind on the road. But not everyone should have to get into a car accident to realize how important educated and safe driving is. There are things you can do to ensure your safety. Do them. It’s not worth the risk.
