Making The Right Choices Behind The Wheel
Making the Right Choices Behind the Wheel
Every year, an overwhelming number of Americans are either killed or seriously injured from the events of automotive accidents. Statistics have showed that more Americans die every year from automotive related incidents, than previous large-scale military conflicts. Many of these precious lives that are lost because of these incidents could have been saved by simply knowing and following a few concepts of safe driving etiquette.
When it comes to road safety, there are five main points to understand that can help keep you and others safer on the road. The first of these points that many people learn even before they get behind the wheel is to buckle up. This safety tip is often overlooked, but can really be the decider between life and death if you were to experience firsthand a devastating accident. The second point, being the point that has been least followed in the previous years, is to PUT DOWN THE PHONE! Countless numbers of drivers lose there lives every year because of them either being on a phone and hitting someone, or someone else being on the phone and hitting them. If more drivers obeyed this safety tip, which is by the way a law in 48 states, the total in casualties every year involving automobiles would drastically decrease.
Safety tip number three simply gives an overall general knowledge to the driver that tells them to drive when they are most alert. This means to refrain from driving when you are drowsy or when you’re in a state where driving a car simply requires more energy and attention than you have at the present moment. Many people underestimate this safety tip. A majority of the time people drive while in this state because they think they are fine, and they believe they are too good enough of a driver to get into an accident because there only a bit tired. Quiet contrary, numerous people are killed every year because of not following this simple rule. If more drivers understood how important it is to drive while in a stable and healthy mood, than more lives may be able to be saved every year on the road.
The fourth tip gives one simple, but yet VERY hard to follow rule, and that rule is… to simply resist the need for speed. Numerous crashes happen every year around the world because a couple of friends want to go on a backroad and “burn some rubber,” or maybe even put the “pedal to the medal” on the freeway. Simply following the government recommended speed limits can help reduce the margin for error when it comes to driving. Another great way to reduce automotive accidents regarding speed, is to know how fast to drive given the present situation. When driving on ice or in rain, reducing speeds and maintaining a steady pace is a great way to combat the elements and stay safe on the road. Driving at a recommended speed and staying safe, is way better than blowing the hood off the car and revving the ponies just to show off. That one time you wish to “show off” may be your last.
The fifth and final tip to follow is to simply not drive under the influence. Driving under the influence, regardless of the rise in texting and driving related wrecks, seems to be the leader in car related accidents year after year. Many people are either hit and killed by someone driving under the influence, or many people under the influence either hit and seriously injury someone else, it works vice versa. Also, if someone is driving under the influence and they hit and kill another driver, that person the drove under the influence may face years in prison. This safety tip is a must follow. Many acholic companies have started to notice this correlation between drunk drivers and car accidents over the past years, that is why more and more companies advertise that if you do drink, you need to have a designated driver. Never drink and drive! If more and more drivers followed this specific tip, no doubt that lives would be saved behind the wheel.
Just because there are so many freak moments that can happen when driving, don’t let that stop you from driving. If you can follow these five simple tips and make sure you are doing what you need to keep yourself and others safe, and you maintain a close watch on fellow drivers, you will be fine. There is real danger once you get behind that wheel, but do what you know to do based off this passage, and you shall be safe. Never fear!
