Driver Education Initiative 2020: In the Driver’s Seat
Driver education is a very important aspect when teenagers are just learning how to drive. When people don’t take their driver education there is a 75 percent chance that they’ll get a traffic ticket and a 16 percent chance that they will most likely get into a car accident which is most of the time very fatal and serious. Taking driving lessons is key to learning how to drive because you’ll get more details and information to help you better stay safe and know not to panic when you do get into trouble with driving. Not only will it help you not get into serious accidents but it taking driving lessons will help with insurance problems that you could run into throughout the years. There are many steps and help that you can learn which will help many people not get into death related accidents when driving. The first and most important step that you have to take is to not drink and drive.
Not only will you hurt yourself when you’re driving intoxicated but you could also hurt a person near you when driving which will end up hurting financially if you don’t die from the accident. The second most important step when taking to reduce death rates is to avoid distractions. Distracted drivers are very big in America and big reason that is causing the deaths is by people looking at something shiny or colorful that you could see in a billboard or bus. Anything can happen in a short span of 2 seconds. Even if you are sure that there are not cars in front of you or in the back while you are looking at something other than the road, a car can come from the side and hit you. I know this from listening to my mom’s experiences with driving and getting distracted for a split second.
It was the worst feeling the day I got called out of class because a member of my family has been hurt badly, never did I ever think it would be my own mother since she always warned me about the safety of driving and was always focused on the road so it took me by surprise when my cousin told me that my mom was in the hospital. They didn’t let me go but I got to see her when she came home that night and saw that she was in pain. I asked her what happened and all she said was that she looked at a person next to her to see if she can switch lanes and the next second, she was getting crushed by a minivan to the side of her. After that day I really couldn’t be super comfortable in a car because every time I looked at another car next me, I could picture my mom’s scared face as she walked through the door. I have always made sure that when my mom or step-dad drives me somewhere, that I never tell them to look at something even if it really cool because I know that they cannot look and cannot get unfocused.
I never scream in the car or talk loudly since I know that it doesn’t startle my mom now more than every after the accident and I would want her to panic. I make sure that if my parents even have one alcoholic beverage, that I will drive them home even if they say that they are capable of driving because I wouldn’t want to get into anything serious. Taking these steps will help decrease the deaths and accidents from driving and let people know how important driver education really is.
