Drivers Education Essay

By Marih Hardy

When learning to drive it is important to take drivers education, as it informs you about the dangers of the road at a young age and embeds the necessary information to prevent you from getting in a car accident that might result in you or someone else’s death. To achieve this goal, they teach you how you adjust your mirrors and steering wheel correctly, understand rules and regulations, how to safely communicate while driving and maneuvering through traffic, how to use your turns signals while changing lanes or turning, and stressing the importance of going the right speed limit. Driver’s education can also teach you how to take responsibility because they expect you to follow the laws and when you decide to disregard them you must deal with the consequences that you knew were coming.

Steps that can be taken to reduce the number of deaths while driving is always staying focused on the roads. By doing this you should have your phone on do not disturb and place it out of site like keeping it in a bag to get rid of any temptations to use it. Make sure you pay attention to the signs that are up, they are posted for a reason, if you go the speed 60 in an area with the speed of 35 that’s putting you and everyone else around you at risk of a collision. By having someone in the car to give you directions to a location can be helpful and if no one is around, use the phone’s voice to tell you so you don’t take your eyes off the road. Lastly, always driving sober, if you or someone you know are under the influence then you should have someone else drive or call a taxi service to help you get home safely. Taking extra precautions like these can reduce the number of deaths while driving.

I have experienced someone I know who was involved with a collision because they did not follow the rules of the road. A friend of mine was driving irresponsibly, they were trying to pass a yellow light before it turned red so she gain way more speed than she needed and as soon as they entered the intersection to turn right the light turned red and a car hit them from the side, luckily no one was badly injured, but she had her license suspended and her car was totaled. If she would’ve slowed down at the yellow light instead trying to beat the light the outcome would be very different, she would still have her license and her car. From this experience I will be taking everything I learned from the driver’s education class that I took and the steps that I listed along with many others to be a better and safe driver and I will be careful to not disobey the laws that will impact me and other drivers on the road, which might result in terrible outcomes and consequences.
