Driving Safe for Everyone

In a world as technologically advanced as our own, we are blessed with many great inventions that make our lives easier than that of those who came before us. Whether it be refrigeration, handheld telephones, or automobiles, there are many conveniences we are fortunate to have. But, with some of these conveniences come dangers. Automobiles are a prime example of this. In the year 2012 alone, over 30,000 people died in highway accidents across the U.S. Those are more deaths than the casualties of 5 of America’s 10 deadliest wars combined, according to Wikipedia.com. So the question is, how can this be fixed? Through education. Knowledge is power, and by teaching people safe habits when driving, deaths can be reduced. I have been fortunate enough to not be a direct witness or victim to an automobile accident, but I have family who have been in accidents, and all of their thoughts share a resounding message. It’s scary. Why should we fear something that was created for the betterment of society? Cars are not a bad thing, but irresponsible drivers make cars a scary threat to our safety. We can all start to change this idea by driving safely. We can adhere to the speed limit, always drive sober, and keep our cars in good working condition, so that no accidents can surprise us. It is with the intent of keeping people safe that we can do these things to reduce the amount of tragic deaths caused by automobiles.
