2020’s Drivers Education Scholarship

As a student who has taken driver’s education, I understand the importance of driver education. Driver education can help reduce the number of deaths because new drivers are being taught about safety on the road. These regulations can help new drivers avoid fatal accidents. The steps that can be taken to reduce the number of death related accidents are simple. To follow all safety guidelines like driving while wearing a seatbelt, not to drive in bad weather, and not to drive while under the influence of drugs and alcohol. If these simple guidelines were followed, there would be fewer accidents and casualties.

While I have never been in a terrible accident, I have been in small accidents that involved collisions with another vehicle. These accidents, though they were not fatal, were very scary and I would not want to experience it again. I have seen friends drive recklessly and have gotten consequences because of their actions. They have had accidents that were serious and could have been fatal. My family members have also driven irresponsibly because of their confidence on the road. Because of their overconfidence on the road, they have been in situations where the result could have been fatal. I have learned from these situations and have taken steps to become a safer driver. These steps include following all the regulations that are given during driver’s education. A big step I take is that I never use my phone while driving because of the risk that comes with taking my eyes off the road. I stand by this rule and do not use my phone at all during driving. As a teenager, I believe that this is a big contribution to fatal accidents and I would rather not become a statistic that could be added to the percentage of deaths due to texting and driving. I also encourage all my friends to do the same because I would be devastated if they were to get into an accident that could have been avoided. I also discourage friends from driving in bad weather conditions such as a thunderstorm. I instead offer the option of waiting inside a restaurant or a place nearby. This way, we can wait out the storm together instead of taking the risk of driving in bad conditions.

All in all, I believe that driver’s education should be a priority class for everybody who wants to drive. The class goes in-depth about the rules and regulations for the road. These rules can help a person avoid an accident especially a fatal one. This will not only protect the person driving but also will help other drivers on the road stay safe. Because of the pandemic, it has been hard to secure a class, but at last, was able to attend a school. I was able to learn how to protect myself, my passengers, and all the other drivers on the road. I personally am grateful that I had the opportunity to take a driver’s education class.
