Driver’s Education Saves Lives

Car accidents are among the leading causes of death in America. Drivers education is an effective way to reduce the number of car-related deaths because it allows individuals to learn the necessary rules and skills to become safer drivers. I took a defensive driving and driver’s education course before I got my license because I wanted to be a safer driver for myself and the other drivers on the road. The class was beneficial because I was exposed to information about driving that even my parents did not know. I have never experienced a car accident, but I was able to prevent an accident from occurring because of my defensive drivers’ class. I was driving in the car with my mom, and we were entering my neighborhood when a woman’s car instantly swerved into the lane I was driving in. The driving course taught me always to be attentive so that I can react promptly, and because of that lesson, I was able to stop my vehicle before colliding with the other vehicle. Driver education courses are very effective in preparing individuals to become safer drivers.

An effective way to reduce car-related deaths is to provide more adults and teens with the opportunity to take a driver education course that includes lessons in the classroom and on the road with skilled professionals. As I mentioned, I took a driver’s education course at the age of 16, and fortunately, I have never been involved in a car accident. I feel like the course made me a better driver because, in the classroom setting, I was able to ask a question about the lessons that were taught, and I was also able to ask questions when during the driving lessons on the interstate. Driver education courses create defensive drivers that are better prepared in the case of an accident than individuals who may not have had the privilege of taking a driver’s education course. Drivers’ education courses can be expensive, so not many people can afford to take them. If we create a program to provide more people with the opportunity to take the course, we could decrease deaths caused by car accidents.

To become a better and safer driver, I can continue to study the rules and regulations regarding operating a vehicle and continue to advocate for people to become aware of the dangers of distracted driving. Although, car accidents can be caused by the fact that many people have not been adequately prepared to operate vehicles. Some accidents are caused by simple mistakes that have led to the deaths of many. Distracted driving can be eating while driving and even texting while driving. Just a simple glance at your phone or a quick bite of your burger can cost your life or the life of another driver. If I continue to spread the word about how dangerous distractions while driving is, I hope to decrease the number of car accidents caused by distracted drivers.

Drivers education courses are one the best line of defense for preventing car related deaths. It has the ability to provide so many people with proper education to improve their driving skills. Creating more adequately prepared defensive drivers, as a result, will decrease the amount of car accident deaths. Distracted driving is another cause of car-related deaths. Many people do not see the harm, so we can continue to make people aware of the impact of driving while distracted; we can also decrease the number of deaths caused by cars. Cars are not toys and should be handled with seriousness.
