Altering a Driver’s Mindset
Altering a Driver’s Mindset
We will never be aware of the exact moment when death will approach us or a loved one. There can be a time of preparation if we have a terminal disease or a delicate medical condition. These are forms of natural deaths that prepare us for the worst; however, what happens when natural death isn’t part of the equation? This is when death hits the hardest. One of the most prevalent ways a person dies without a moment of mental and emotional preparation for their loved ones is through car accidents. The number of people dying due to car accidents is alarming, and as a society, we must take measures to stop deaths due to car accidents.
Many organizations are taking action and advocating for drivers to take precautions as accidents can occur at an instance. The organizations advocate to the public about issues that can emerge and cause fatal accidents. By the organizations doing this, they educate the public on the consequences of reckless driving. If an individual knows the consequences of irresponsible driving, there will be less likelihood of accidents. Furthermore, educating the public or future drivers on the danger of reckless conduct when driving can create an alteration and decrease the number of accidents that caused death.
As a nation, we must strive to decrease the number of fatal accidents. We must create a method or plan to prevent deaths from occurring or stopping accidents in general to stop. Some of the steps we can do are making more Public Service Announcements, more laws that implement new drivers to take driving courses, and free driving education forms. Organizations and some states already enforce the first two steps; however, we must do more promotions of these steps as the more advocation through PSAs. The enforcement of future drivers take driving courses will aid in further awareness of the dangers of driving. The last step is not as common, which is understandable since not everything comes free. However, I have witnessed in my community that many young people drive without a license since my state requires drivers under the age of 21 must take a driving course.
My state requires driving classes for teenagers and young adults, which is extraordinary; however, the only downfall is that the average cost is around $150. Many low-income families in my community will not send their children to a costly course. Consequently, many young drivers are doing errands in their parents’ vehicles without the proper classes and understanding that driving has vast risks. There should be free courses, as many students drive without licenses, which is a massive risk to other drivers.
I have been a part of a car incident, but luckily, it was not a severe accident. However, the accident has taught me that there is importance in being careful when driving because an accident can be brutal at any second. Due to these experiences, I have devoted myself to being a safe driver, and I was fortunate enough to attend the driver’s classes. I can testify that these classes are helpful and have impacted me not to make reckless decisions such as not texting and driving or doing any other distracting forms.
More states should participate in promoting free driving classes, and organizations should conduct more Public Service Announcements. In this manner, there will be fewer people dying in car accidents, and society will not have to endure a lack of preparation because of sudden death like fatal crashes. Let’s change the way a driver perceives their surroundings by creating these impactful actions.
