Striving for safe driving
There are many skills that apply to driving. These skills include efficient steering, good reflexes, braking and accelerating smoothly, and another skill is the ability to estimate distances. There is importance in drivers education, safe driving can lead to reducing the number of deaths, I have witnessed situations where people were not driving responsible, and knowing what makes a safe driver is essential for every driver.
Driver’s education is important for reducing the number of deaths as a result of driving. The reason behind the importance of driver’s education is to teach how to drive on intersections, highways, at night, and in different weather conditions. If they had not taken the training then if one of those situations happened to them, they would probably panic. Them panicking would heighten the chances of them and other people in cars around them getting seriously hurt, or even dying. It is important to stay calm, and knowing what to do in each situation helps remain calm.
The main ways to reduce the deaths during driving is simple. Follow the rules of the roads, obey the traffic laws. Do not drink before or during driving. Use blinkers so other drivers know what you are going to do. Avoid distractions like electronic devices. Finally, the driver should be rested. Driving without the proper amount of rest is almost equivalent to driving drunk.
I have been at the scene of two car accidents. The first one was in my moms car, a guy ran into the back of us. He was texting and was not looking up, the light turned red, he did not notice it because he was looking down at his phone , we stopped, then he ran into us. The second car accident I was in happened in the winter. This guy was driving too fast and hit the uneven pavement, then he spun out right in front of us, heading toward us. My dad has experience driving a semi truck for about twenty years, so he is a really good driver. He swerved and the guy missed us, but he hit three other cars, then slammed into a semi truck.
Finally, there are steps that all drivers can take to be better drivers, as well as making the roads safer. First, every driver should take the time and get to know their car. I currently do not have a car of my own, I drive my parents cars. We have two trucks; a Tahoe and a Suburban, they both drive differently. One of the trucks; the suburban , is bigger and the gas pedal is very touchy. The other truck; the Tahoe, is smaller and slower to go. Another thing all drivers should do is position their mirrors properly and learn to watch them. I always have to change the mirrors when I drive either truck because I am not the only one who drives the vehicle. Also, drivers should always look ahead and behind them when they drive. My dad always tells me to make a habit of checking all of my mirrors when driving, not only looking forward. Again, drivers should use turn signals when they are necessary. Last but not least, always stay calm. When I first started driving and I would get scared, I would grip the steering wheel a little tighter and take a deep breath.
Driving is a necessary thing to do to get from place to place. But, if the driver is not being safe then they should not be driving. Safe driving is very important. Drive safe for loved ones, yourself, and others on the road as well.
