Driving Safely

Today in our daily lives we see many events that happen around us that are dangerous, reckless driving being one of them. Our society has focused on reducing the number of deaths caused by dangerous driving, by finding ways to ensure younger generations understand the importance of driving safely.

In my community, we take driver’s education in high school. We have both a classroom portion, and driving with a teacher portion. I believe that drivers education is extremely important because it teaches students the importance of driving safely, and it helps establish the mindset of students to drive safely. It is also important that we drive with our teachers because they evaluate if the student is ready to drive in our community. Our teachers should be making sure that the student that is driving on the road is prepared, and safe.

There are also many ways that could help reduce the amount of deaths caused by dangerous driving, like changing the rules. For example, raising the driving age to 18 allows young individuals to grow, mature, and become more responsible in their lives. Another example is enhancing the requirement that already exists for passing the drivers test .Having more logged hours behind the wheel with an instructor allows people to have more experience driving on the road. Personally, I know that my parents were very worried about me when I first started driving, so what they did was that they made sure that it was instilled in my mind that I must drive safely and becoming more aware of my surroundings. When I had my permit and was practicing driving with my father, he would always give me lectures about the importance of driving safely. To this day, I still remember every lecture and I am very thankful that he always made sure I am driving safe.

In my life I have not experienced a car accident, but I have a couple of friends that drive irresponsibly and it is extremely horrifying. As a teen I definitely understand the excitement and free feeling you get when you get your licence, but I do not think that it gives us a right to drive too fast, or not follow the law.

I am a teen driver and I know that I have many things that I need to work on. For example, I could be more aware of my surroundings when I drive, as well as, making sure that I am always maintaining the speed limit. With my friends, I can remind them to not drive too fast and to always drive safely. In society, I think that there should be a goal put upon us to drive safely and to ensure that younger and future generations learn to drive safely as well.

As you can see, there are many ways that driving safely is important. We just need to send the right message to our community and future drivers to strive to become better, safer, and smarter on the roads.
