Driving School Save Lives

Driving School Saves Lives

When I was in high school I took a class to learn how to drive and control a car. In that class I saw my peers and classmates that took the class seriously and those who didn’t. It is a shame that driving schools are scoffed and given a sideways glance as their importance saves lives. Driving is an important part of growing up in a time like this and if there are no classes to emphasize the importance of safe driving then there will be more deaths related to driving. Knowledge is power and those who are more informed are generally safer and are more capable to drive. According to a study done from The University of Nebraska-Lincoln students who have not taken a driving class they are seventy five percent more likely to get a traffic ticket. They are twenty-four percent more likely to get into a fatal accident. The number of car related deaths are too much, one death is too many however the number is so much higher than that. In 2018 there were 36,560 deaths, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration,it is thankfully lower than 2017 but those deaths could have been avoided if more people were to take a driving course. Had more people taken a course in driving like I had there would be less car accidents and deaths overall. I have not been in a car accident while I was driving thankfully, however when I was younger me and my family were traveling together and the car was hit on the back right side and my cousin had whiplash for several months, though thankfully nothing else happened to her. It was still a horrifying experience. My body was jolted forth and the car lurched sloshing my internals around and it made me feel fatigued and painful. My cousin seemed to have it worse. She looked more tired than I did and she was breathing heavier than everyone else. I think she had a panic attack. she complained her neck was in pain. That was an experience I don’t want to relive again. There are plenty of ways to prevent the loss of life and traffic accidents. One is properly teaching people highway etiquette as there are plenty of people who drive incorrectly on the highway which leads to accidents and mishaps. Another way to prevent these accidents is to show the dangerous effects of multitasking while driving as I feel there are too many people my age and younger that drive like they can do multiple things at once while driving that simply isn’t the case. Ignorance to the fact that accidents can happen to anyone needs to be taught more. I have seen too many people my age and younger think they are basically invincible and can do whatever they want or drive however they want because they think others are going to be there to stop in time or are going to be paying more attention than they will. In driving schools/classes they teach the point of defensive/proactive driving and when you are more focused and alert you are more likely to react in time. Something I feel is extremely important that I don’t think gets brought up is maintenance of your vehicle. Brakes, lights, tires etc. Wear out and too many people leave their cars in disrepair so when the cars need to act at optimal performance, not just for those drivers who like the thrill of driving, they can not react the way they need to. But most importantly more individuals need to take a driving course and I feel that it should be mandated by the government to have every student who’s in public schooling to take a driving class of some kind to graduate.
