“In The Driver’s Seat”
Every year, drivers throughout the world are injured or killed in road traffic. Young drivers are a greater risk everywhere, and this problem is largely unsolved. A better understanding of the processes could be a useful tool in how to prevent it. To change a young driver’s goals behind driving, a variety of different methods should be tested. “Research shows that attitudes about safety are formed at an early age, long before legal driving, and therefore it would also be important to target young adolescents.” Law needs enforcement to be effective and should target areas of particular risk to young drivers. These should place particular emphasis on issues such as speed, drunk driving, mobile phone use, and should target both groups. Research also shows that attitudes about safety are formed at an early age, long before legal driving, and on this basis, it would also be important to target young adolescents. Law needs enforcement to be effective and should target areas of particular risk to young drivers.
There are easy steps that can be taken to reduce risks. The key points are to obey the traffic laws, be predictable, avoid distractions, drive rested, and steer clear of alcohol and drugs. As you do this, you’ll help make the roads safer for all. “The sobering reality of drunk driving is that it is obviously a dangerous behavior, yet too often drivers drive with alcohol in their bloodstream, impairing judgment and slowing reaction time.” Drunk driving claimed more than 10,000 lives in 2012, and alcohol-impaired motor vehicle crashes cost more than an estimated $37 billion a year, according to NHTSA. A speed limit exists for a reason, and it isn’t just to be broken. Exceeding a posted speed limit means you have elected to drive faster than was intended for that road, putting others at risk, all while consuming more fuel. The faster you go, the less reaction time you have, and the more skills are necessary to avoid an accident. As the speed climbs, so do braking distances and all other force measures that can lead to catastrophic collisions and rollovers.
I personally have never been in a car accident. I have had family members that have been in a car accident though. My grandma was driving and began to get tired and steered into the other lane causing a head-on collision. It ended up killing both my grandparents and my 1-year-old cousin. It is very important to stay focused while driving and to stay alert; anything can happen. Emergencies are unexpected, that is why they are called emergencies. Before you start driving make sure you are alert, and make sure that everything is how you want it so you don’t have to attempt to do something while you are driving. Never drive if you have been drinking or doing drugs. Always follow the speed limit. And always be looking for pedestrians on the side of the road. You never know when something is going to happen.
