Driver’s Education Essay

Drivers Education Essay

Looking back at the days when I didn’t drive, I can personally tell you I knew nothing about how to drive. I couldn’t even tell you which petal was the brake or the gas. As my 15th Birthday quickly rolled around I was a nervous wreck knowing I had to start drivers ed soon. I chose to take online drivers ed, which for me was a perfect fit. As I began the class, I realized that it wasn’t nerve racking at all, I was learning so much about driving and all the cautious procedures taken while in and outside of the vehicle. Once I had made it through all of my modules and passed every test, I received my permit. Now let me tell you, driving for the first time was the scariest moment of my life. Although I was extremely frightened, I practiced more and more everyday. My driving skills had reached the point where I wasn’t super stiff when I drove, I wasn’t jerking the car around, and I definitely was not scared anymore. After that year went by perfecting my driving skills, I was finally able to get my license on my 16th birthday. I was and still am to this day a super cautious driver, especially since I was driving without a parent in the passenger seat. Although I was an extremely careful driver, after 10 months of driving I got into my very first accident. I was approaching a yellow light, trying to turn left. I, being a new driver did not know that I was supposed to yield. I turned left, and had a collision with a car going the opposite direction. I ended up totaling my car, which was the most devastating day of my life. That day really left an impact on me teaching me that, anything can happen especially when you least expect it. I also became a much more cautious driver. That situation is something I never want to experience again. I am more careful, and yield at every stoplight now. Since that day, I have never ran a yellow light again. Without my experience in drivers ed and my accident, I wouldn’t be the driver I am today. They both have taught me the significance of road signs, stop lights, yielding, and what procedures to take in case of an emergency.
