In The Driver’s Seat

Every day over 3,700 people lose their lives to road accidents worldwide. In just the U.S. over 34,000 people die each year as a result of this. Every few minutes these statistics are changed due to the constant disasters that happen on the road. It is a fact that these numbers have gone down with the advancements in safety technology but there is a more important factor that can save many more lives than modern safety equipment. This factor is safe driving. Safe driving is attentive, responsible, and cautious. Driver education can help reduce the number of road accidents in the future through education.

Driver education is essential for all drivers to learn how to safely operate a vehicle. This can greatly reduce the number of fatalities while driving by instructing and educating drivers. It positively impacts the future by creating safer drivers for tomorrow to continue to practice their education and spread it to others. Besides driver education, there are many steps to be taken to reduce the number of road fatalities. Some of these steps are being implemented today such as a car not starting until the seatbelt is fastened. These advancements in the vehicle industry have saved thousands of lives. Ever since the seat belt was invented in 1959 more lives have been saved ever since with more inventions being implemented such as airbags and driver assist.

A few years ago my uncle lost his life in a car crash from driving irresponsibly. This impacted my family greatly and made an emphasis on safe driving for us. Many families have been impacted by the tragedies of dangerous driving which is why it is important to teach everyone why it is important to be careful. We can all take steps to be safer drivers by self- discipline and educating ourselves. These steps are to wear our seatbelts, focus on the road, pay attention, and much more. We all have to start with ourselves and influence others to follow us. Starting with myself I can show others that being responsible is the right thing to do for it is a small decision that has big consequences. I say this so that families won’t have to experience a loss of a family member such as my uncle to a small decision that can change our lives.

When we are in the driver’s seat we must think about ourselves and others. We not only affect ourselves when we drive but also other drivers which is why we have to make sure to keep everyone safe through practicing our driving discipline. With these steps we can take to better ourselves and influence others we can prevent many future accidents. We are required to be responsible while driving which is why it is important to educate ourselves on the drastic results that can happen in a heartbeat. Our job now is to better ourselves first and then show others to follow. With our discipline and responsibility, we will make safer roads and a positive future.
