Drivers Education Importance
What is one of the most terrifying, freeing experiences most of us face in our adolescents to young adult lives? Driving, an experience some look forward to while others fear. I remember that when I was first learning how to drive, I was terrified because I didn’t want to mess up or get into an accident. Although dangerous, when practiced with safety and caution, anyone can be a great driver. Drivers education is an amazing way to not only expose us to driving in a more controlled and safe environment but it also teaches us ways we can be a safe driver off the road as well. From learning the rules of the road to better understanding how to prepare for other drivers or unexpected occurrences, the drivers education course is something I recommend to everyone just learning to drive.
According to the scholarship page, “an average of 34,000 people die each year as a result of driving” in America. Collision accidents are not the only way deaths while driving can occur. Weather, time of day, and even distractions can cause accidents that lead to death. Drivers education can help prevent fatal accidents because it better prepares us for when we’re driving on our own. Almost every drivers education course requires at least 10 hours of driving at night, one of the most dangerous times to drive. Your vision is limited and the nocturnal wildlife is everywhere, however, driving at night is not required to get your actual license. This leaves most new drivers unprepared to drive at night, leaving them with higher chances to get into an accident.
About a year and a half ago near the end of the school year, I was driving to school and got into a car accident. Another student wasn’t paying attention and rear-ended my car. Luckily no one was injured, but accidents where a driver wasn’t paying attention cause deaths all around the United States. These types of accidents are easily preventable with drivers education, as people are taught of the possible distractions while driving and how to better prepare or eliminate them altogether. Remaining calm and focused is one of the most important steps you can take to becoming a safe driver.
Overall, drivers education is a course that teaches us how to better prepare ourselves for the world of driving, especially to those who are just learning to drive. Drivers education helps eliminate the chance of causing an accident due to being unprepared or uneducated. Although that risk will never completely be eliminated, educating ourselves, and having hands-on experience with a teacher can be crucial to maintaining a safe driving experience.
